Coffee is a gentle senior boy — a sweet old male dog around 10–12 years old — who came to our medical boarding recently. Before joining us, he lived in another animal shelter where, sadly, he was quite neglected. He arrived covered in old bite marks, extremely thin and weak, weighing only about 19 kg, and could barely stand or walk.
When his kind rescuer, Varsha, brought him to us, we noticed his legs trembled constantly and he didn’t have the strength or will to stand — not even for his food. Gradually, with consistent care, we began working on his recovery. We started him on joint supplements, provided regular infrared therapy, and gave him gentle physiotherapy, including passive range of motion (PROM) exercises. He also received soothing hemp seed oil massages, and over time, his back legs began to regain strength and stability.
Coffee is under palliative care, as he has a mass near his lung, another on his spleen, and mild spondylitis. He also has a few lumps on his body that may be pressure sores, which we are closely monitoring. Despite these challenges, Coffee continues to improve — he’s standing longer, showing curiosity, and interacting with the people around him. He has also gained healthy weight and now weighs around 21 kg — a sign of progress and better strength. His journey is slow but steady, and his spirit remains unshaken.
A huge shoutout to Dr. Vanya and Dr. Mitali for their compassionate care and continuous efforts in managing Coffee’s recovery so beautifully.
